Everything you need to know to get the most out of Kima — from setting up your household to generating vet reports.
Getting Started
Getting started with Kima is quick. Create your account, choose your care goals, finish your profile, set up or join a household, invite caregivers, and add your pets. Then you can start logging care from the shared timeline.
Sign up with your email address and password, then continue through Kima's onboarding flow. After the account screen, Kima guides you through goals and profile details before household setup.
Pick the care goals you want Kima to help with, like meals, medications, weight tracking, exercise, grooming, vet visits, health records, or household coordination. Then add your profile details, date of birth, timezone, and legal agreements.
Household setup is a step inside onboarding. Create your shared care space, choose its timezone, or accept a pending invite if someone has already invited you.
The person who creates the household becomes the owner. You can manage household settings, roles, and members from household settings later.
Invite anyone who helps care for your pets — partners, roommates, family members, dog walkers, or pet sitters — by entering their email address. If they already have Kima, the invite appears in their account. If they are new, they should sign up with the same email address you invited, and Kima will show the pending invite during onboarding. For temporary caregivers, you can set start and end dates for their access window.
When inviting, you'll choose a role for each person:
Owner
Full control — can manage members, roles, pets, and household settings. One per household.
Admin
Can manage pets, invite members, create tasks, and adjust most settings. Great for co-parents and primary caregivers.
Member
Can log activities, complete tasks, send messages, and view the timeline. Perfect for pet sitters, dog walkers, and extended family.
Add each pet with their name, pet type, breed, birthday, sex, weight, and notes. Kima supports a wide range of pet types:
Free households can add up to 2 pets. Premium unlocks unlimited pets, and you can return later to add photos, vet information, health records, medications, vaccinations, and weight goals.
Onboarding flow
Household setup happens during onboarding after account, goals, and profile details. Kima then walks you through invites and pets so your shared timeline is ready before you land in the app.
The Timeline
The timeline is the heart of Kima. It's a shared, real-time feed of everything happening with your pets — visible to every member of your household.
Timeline entries are grouped by date, with the most recent entries at the bottom. Each entry shows the activity type, details, who logged it, and when — so you always know what happened and who did it.
Filter the timeline by pet, activity type (meals, walks, meds, etc.), item type (activities, tasks, messages), or by specific household member. Quickly find exactly what you're looking for.
The floating action button (FAB) at the bottom of the timeline gives you quick access to log a new activity, create a task, send a message, or log a mood/weight check-in. One tap to start.
Every entry shows who did what and when. When your partner feeds the dog at 7am, you see it on your timeline immediately — no need to text and ask. Clear accountability, zero guesswork.
Logging Activities
Kima's timeline is organized around the care buckets people use every day: intake, exercise, bathroom, health and care, veterinary, and custom tracking. Medications and vet visits have dedicated flows and show up on the timeline as they're logged.
Intake
Food, water, treats
Exercise
Walks, play, sports
Bathroom
Pee, poop, litter
Health & Care
Meds, grooming, cleaning
Veterinary
Visits, records, notes
Custom
Your own care types
Each activity can include optional detail fields that make your logs more useful over time. None of these are required — log as much or as little as you want.
Amount & units
Track how much food, how far a walk, or how long a play session. Units adjust by activity type (cups, minutes, miles, etc.).
Rating
Rate the activity on a 1-5 scale. Was the walk energetic or sluggish? Did they eat eagerly or reluctantly? Ratings feed into mood trend analysis.
Notes
Free-text notes for additional context. "Refused dry food, only ate wet" or "Pulled hard on leash near the park" — helpful detail for the whole team.
Food brand & location
Track which food brands you're using for feeding activities, and log locations for walks and vet visits. Useful when comparing routines and outcomes.
Quick re-log
Kima remembers your recent activities for each pet and shows them as one-tap buttons for fast re-logging. If you feed the same breakfast every morning, you can log it in a single tap — no need to re-enter the details each time.
Weight check logging
When you log a weight check activity, Kima automatically updates your pet's current weight on their profile. This keeps weight trends accurate without any extra steps.
Task Management
Create tasks for your household and track their completion. Tasks integrate directly with the timeline, so completing a task automatically logs the activity.
Create one-time tasks for things that need to happen once — "Take Max to the groomer on Saturday" or "Buy new food bowls." Set a due date, assign it to a specific household member, and track completion.
Set up tasks that repeat on a schedule. Kima supports flexible recurrence patterns:
Daily
For tasks that happen every day — morning feeding, evening walks, daily medication doses.
Every N days
For tasks on a custom interval — every 3 days, every 2 weeks, etc. Great for flea/tick treatments.
Specific days of week
For tasks on certain weekdays — "Walk on Mon/Wed/Fri" or "Grooming every Saturday."
Monthly
For monthly tasks — heartworm medication, weight check-ins, vet appointment reminders.
Assign tasks to specific household members so everyone knows who's responsible. When a task is completed, Kima automatically creates a corresponding activity record on the timeline — so completing the "Evening walk" task also logs the walk with all the relevant details.
Overdue tasks are flagged so nothing falls through the cracks. You can see all pending, completed, and overdue tasks from the tasks tab.
Health Tracking
Kima gives you a comprehensive view of your pet's health over time — mood trends, weight changes, care consistency, and medication adherence, all in one place.
Log daily mood and energy check-ins on a 1-5 scale. Choose from mood levels ranging from "Very Low" to "Excellent" and add optional notes about your pet's behavior. Over time, Kima builds a trend chart so you can spot patterns — like whether mood dips on certain days or improves after specific activities.
View your pet's 30-day mood history at a glance, including average scores and trend direction. This data also feeds into the Care Score and vet reports.
Log weight regularly to track changes over time. Set a target weight goal (based on your vet's recommendation) and monitor progress toward it. Kima shows a 90-day weight history chart with trend lines, so you can see gradual changes that might be invisible day-to-day.
Weight data is also included in vet reports and insights, helping you and your vet make informed decisions about diet and exercise.
Your Care Score is a 0-100 daily composite that captures the overall quality of your pet's care. It looks across how consistently activities are logged, whether tasks get done on time, your pet's mood trend, and variety of care — all rolled into a single number you can watch over time.
Scores translate to letter grades: A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), F (below 60). Kima surfaces trend direction — improving, steady, or slipping — so you always know whether care is heading the right way.
Add your pet's medications and connect them to tasks so the household knows what is due and what has already been given.
Medication tasks can generate reminders for your household, and completed doses are logged on the timeline with who gave them and when.
Household & Collaboration
Kima is built for shared responsibility. Whether it's two partners or a household with a dog walker, pet sitter, and extended family, everyone stays in the loop.
A household is a shared space where your household collaborates. All pets, activities, tasks, and messages live within the household. Every member sees the same timeline and has access to the same information. Think of it as your pet care home base.
Three role levels let you control who can do what. Owners have full control over the household. Admins can manage pets and invite members. Members can log activities, complete tasks, and chat — everything needed for day-to-day care.
Send messages directly on the timeline, visible to the whole household. Keep pet-care communication alongside the care itself, instead of buried in a separate group chat.
Add comments for follow-up notes, attach photos or videos to messages, and pin important household updates. Read receipts let you know when your messages have been seen by other household members.
Gamification
Consistent care matters. Kima uses streaks, achievements, leaderboards, and points to keep your household engaged and motivated — turning daily routines into rewarding habits.
Kima shows streaks in two useful views: your own consistency and the household's combined consistency.
My streaks
See the routines you personally keep going, from daily engagement to recurring task completion.
Household streaks
When anyone in the household logs the right care or completes the right task, it can keep the shared streak moving.
Routine streaks
Activities and recurring tasks can both contribute, so medication routines, walks, meals, and other habits are easy to follow.
When a streak is at risk (you haven't logged today but still have time), Kima sends a gentle reminder. If you do lose a streak, you can restore it once per week — giving you a second chance without losing your progress.
Kima has 50+ achievements across multiple categories that reward different aspects of care:
Streak milestones
7 days, 30 days, 100 days, 365 days...
Count milestones
10 walks, 100 feedings, 500 activities...
Sharing milestones
Invite caregivers, team activity goals...
A household-wide leaderboard ranks all caregivers by their contribution to care. Scoring is weighted — consistent daily logging counts more than sporadic bursts. It's a fun, friendly way to see who's been the most active caregiver.
Leaderboard score combines activity logs, completed tasks, earned achievements, shares, active streaks, longest streak, and any bonus points from active rewards. Achievements unlock through streak, count, sharing, and special milestones.
Insights & Analytics
Kima analyzes your care data to surface actionable insights — correlations between activities and mood, care score trends, and how your pet compares to similar animals.
Track your Care Score over time with weekly and monthly trend charts. See breakdowns by component (consistency, task completion, mood, variety, engagement) so you know exactly where to improve and what's going well.
Kima analyzes relationships between activities and mood scores. Discover patterns like "mood is higher on days with exercise" or "energy dips when walks are skipped." These insights help you optimize your pet's routine.
See how your pet's activity levels, weight trends, and care scores compare to similar pets by type and breed when enough anonymous data is available. Comparisons are framed around your pet's own history.
Visual charts show how care activities break down by category, by caregiver, and by day of week. Spot patterns like "Jake handles most walks" or "weekends have less activity" and adjust accordingly.
Vet Reports
No more guessing when the vet asks "How many times did she vomit this week?" Kima generates comprehensive pet reports that you can export as a PDF and share with your veterinarian.
Activity summary
Complete log of activities by type — feeding frequency, exercise duration, bathroom patterns, grooming history, and any notable changes in routine.
Medication history
Full medication log with doses given, missed doses, timing patterns, and current prescriptions. Your vet sees exactly what's been administered and when.
Mood trends
30-day mood and energy history with trend visualization. Helps your vet understand behavioral changes over time, not just what happened today.
Weight history
Weight chart with 90-day trends, target weight progress, and rate of change. Crucial data for diet discussions and health assessments.
Elimination patterns
Bathroom activity log showing frequency, timing, and any notes about abnormalities — diarrhea, blood, straining, etc. This is often the first question a vet asks, and with Kima you'll have an exact record rather than a guess.
PDF export
Generate a clean, printable PDF report for any time period. Select your pet, choose the date range, and export. Bring it to your vet appointment or email it ahead of time — no more scrambling to remember details from memory.
